Ashley & Brent - Cedar Rapids, IA

Even though Ashley and Brent live out of state, I feel like I have been hanging out with them my whole life. I spent the evening before the wedding with them and their family at their rehearsal party, and with in the first hour of speaking with their family and friends I knew the next day was going to be fantastic.

To me this wedding was extraordinary. Ashley and Brent did not see each other before the ceremony and I have never seen a bride and groom so nervous, it was great!  After I left Ashley’s hair appointment I headed to the church to find the guys while Sara spent most of the time witnessing the laughter in the girls dressing room and capturing Ashley’s preparations.  The group of friends that this couple has surrounding them speaks alot about their character and how they treat other people. There is one moment that I will never forget.  During all of the chaos two young boys entered the room where the rest of the groomsmen where getting ready.  I could tell that Brent had a ton on his mind and that he was very nervous, but as soon as the young boys entered the room he stopped everything and gave them the warmest greeting along with a special present for each of them to open.  From the young boys perspective, being 9 to 12 years in age and entering a room full of grown men who you have never met, I think you would feel a little out of place. It was very touching to see Brent go out of his way to make them feel like they were as big a part of the day as everyone else. When they opened there gift Brent stood anxiously awaiting to see there reaction. I could only imagine what he is like on Christmas morning! The gift was a small Swiss army knife, one for each of the boys. I don’t know who was more excited, the boys or Brent. Life is made up of these small moments that make us who we are and I feel so lucky to be witness to such love and kindness.

There is so much more to write about I don’t even know where to begin so I will leave it like this…

What we do is so much larger then just show up to photograph a wedding. Your day was a fresh dose of real life without expectations and for me,  it was a privilege to be part of.

Thank you

Danny & Elana - Iowa City Wedding

Wow, what a full day! Danny and Elana’s wedding day was so much fun for us.  It was awesome to capture the full day from makeup appointments all the way through the dance and witness the emotions of the bride change through out the day.  A beautiful ceremony downtown Iowa City was followed by an elegant but rocking reception at Kinnick Stadium.  Their family is simply amazing, what a party, Danny’s family knows how to get down!

What a fun night, Sara and I both had a wonderful time sharing your day. Thank you for letting us be a part of it!

Iowa City Wedding

It’s still early in the wedding season but that doesn’t mean things can’t get interesting.

After the rain had stopped and the wedding party dried off the seats the stage was set for a lovely ceremony at the Shakespeare stage in Iowa city.  On of my favorite things about this wedding was that it didn’t get to caught up in the “wedding” and was completely focused on the real reason for having a wedding, the marriage and sharing it with family and friends. Kandace and Andy even walked a few miles from the ceremony to the reception along side of their guests so the could visit and share the day with the people who mean most to them. I also enjoyed sharing this for my own selfish reasons, Andy brews his  beer!  Andy had brewed a few special beers to share with all of the guests (including their photographers ;) It was the prefect addition to a completely unique wedding.

Later in the evening to contrast the rain from earlier in the day, across the street from the reception site was a structure fire which became quite the spectacle. This is something that I can say I have never seen at a wedding and I’m sure no one will forget.

Thank you for having us along for the ride!

Latest Iowa Wedding Photography Post

What a great way to finish out the wedding season! I really enjoy winter weddings. When you combine a light dusting of fresh white snow and bride with a warm friendly smile, It’s hard not to love your job. Of course a nice cup of hot chocolate would only sweeten the deal, but who could complain!

Melissa and Cody are a blast to be around. From the dance party that Melissa and her bridesmaids had in the dressing room to the sarcastic comments and insults between the groomsmen, I had a hard time keeping a straight face through out the day. Below are some of my favorite moments.

Last minute alterations...if your planning a wedding, count on it!

Some of those great dance moves in the dressing room.

After Melissa & Cody had laid eyes on each other for the first time they wanted to spend a few minutes alone. Spying on them through the window? How could I resist, what a beautiful moment, now they can share it with generations to come.

Truly An Emotional Wedding

I had the privilege to capture Julie and Patrick’s wedding on a beautiful fall afternoon right here in Cedar Rapids, IA.  After spending some time and getting to know Julie and Patrick, I knew their wedding was going to be full of tears of joy.  The love that they share was revealed to the world by the look on Patrick’s face as he saw his bride for the first time as her father proudly walked her down the aisle.

Julie & Patrick, thank you for letting us share and document your special day. With all of the emotion that surrounded the day, there were moments that Sara and I were choked up as well.

Here are a few images that we wanted to share.

Thank you,

Brian

Julie said she wasn't nervous, but from the way she was twiddling her toes I knew she was!

Real tears of joy folks!

A strong tradition, of being non-traditional

What can I say, from the first moment that I meet Rebecca and Justin I knew that their Cedar Rapids Wedding was going to be something special. The wedding was held at a local art gallery which made for some of the most colorful wedding photography that I had seen in a long time.  Instead of having a traditional wedding band or a DJ, Rebecca & Justin decided to have their favorite rock band play.  How was the band you ask, amazing! They played covers from Pearl Jam to ACDC to Metallica. The highlight for me was their version of Billy Idol’s White Wedding, it as so appropriate and it just rocked the house!

Below are a few images from the wedding and my favorite from the engagement session as well.

Rebecca & Justin, thank you for letting us be a part of your special day, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday night.
