Winter Wonderland Chicago Engagement Session

Melissa and Ray wanted to have their engagement session take place while Chicago still had  Christmas lights hanging around the city, what a wonderful idea! I had a lot of fun visiting some of their favorite spots around town and getting to know the both them.  It was cold and windy but well worth every minute. After traveling around the city and shooting pictures for a few hours we decided it would be a good idea to get some hot lunch to warm up. It just happened to work out that we were only two blocks from the small bar and restaurant where they first meet.

As night began to fall, so did the snow. The light fluffy kind with huge flakes, it was prefect. What a way to end the Chicago engagement session!

Thanks again for spending the day with me, I am really looking forward to sharing your wedding day with you as well.

Latest Iowa Wedding Photography Post

What a great way to finish out the wedding season! I really enjoy winter weddings. When you combine a light dusting of fresh white snow and bride with a warm friendly smile, It’s hard not to love your job. Of course a nice cup of hot chocolate would only sweeten the deal, but who could complain!

Melissa and Cody are a blast to be around. From the dance party that Melissa and her bridesmaids had in the dressing room to the sarcastic comments and insults between the groomsmen, I had a hard time keeping a straight face through out the day. Below are some of my favorite moments.

Last minute alterations...if your planning a wedding, count on it!

Some of those great dance moves in the dressing room.

After Melissa & Cody had laid eyes on each other for the first time they wanted to spend a few minutes alone. Spying on them through the window? How could I resist, what a beautiful moment, now they can share it with generations to come.

Great car for crusing around with your groomsmen...

The look of true happiness!

Truly An Emotional Wedding

I had the privilege to capture Julie and Patrick’s wedding on a beautiful fall afternoon right here in Cedar Rapids, IA.  After spending some time and getting to know Julie and Patrick, I knew their wedding was going to be full of tears of joy.  The love that they share was revealed to the world by the look on Patrick’s face as he saw his bride for the first time as her father proudly walked her down the aisle.

Julie & Patrick, thank you for letting us share and document your special day. With all of the emotion that surrounded the day, there were moments that Sara and I were choked up as well.

Here are a few images that we wanted to share.

Thank you,

Brian

Julie said she wasn't nervous, but from the way she was twiddling her toes I knew she was!

Real tears of joy folks!

Future Photographer?

Needless to say, between finishing out the end of the wedding season, fitting in last minute engagement sessions before the weather turns nasty, and getting orders ready before the holidays, November is always a busy month for us.

This year, Christmas came early for my family, we were blessed with a healthy baby boy! A lot of you had been asking  when my wife was due and I wanted to share the image below and let you know all is well. Future photographer? If he is as creative as our daughter is he will definitely have a camera in his hands at an early age.

Downtown Cedar Rapids Engagement Session

Melissa and Cody wanted to head downtown Cedar Rapids for a last minute engagement session before their upcoming wedding in a few weeks.  I think it was around 34 degrees out and by the time we where finished it was just starting to flurry and my hands were completely numb. I am so glad they decided on an urban setting for the session, we had a great time and the photos turned out amazing!

Below are a few of my favorite images from the session, I hope you enjoy!

Cedar Rapids Iowa Engagement Photography

Here in the Midwest you never know what to expect out of the weather! Fall can be such a short period of time and the fall colors come and go with out any warning.  Krista and Mark were set on having fall pictures despite what the weather would bring. We had to battle against the winds but we had a great time goofing around on one of the last nice days before the dreaded winter months. I am looking forward to shooting their Cedar Rapids wedding.

Here are some sample engagement photos from the session.

Until next time,

A strong tradition, of being non-traditional

What can I say, from the first moment that I meet Rebecca and Justin I knew that their Cedar Rapids Wedding was going to be something special. The wedding was held at a local art gallery which made for some of the most colorful wedding photography that I had seen in a long time.  Instead of having a traditional wedding band or a DJ, Rebecca & Justin decided to have their favorite rock band play.  How was the band you ask, amazing! They played covers from Pearl Jam to ACDC to Metallica. The highlight for me was their version of Billy Idol’s White Wedding, it as so appropriate and it just rocked the house!

Below are a few images from the wedding and my favorite from the engagement session as well.

Rebecca & Justin, thank you for letting us be a part of your special day, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday night.

Would you mind climbing up on the roof please?

What great sports! I wasn’t sure if they would go for it or not but with out hesitation they climbed up on top of an old shelter house. The beat up wood shingles made for an awesome background. When you have a couple that is open for anything new, it really allows us to be creative, and give them an engagement session they will never forget! Here are a few sample images from our Cedar Rapids Iowa engagement session.

I’m looking forward to the next one!
